I have played video games all my life and as I’ve gotten older I purposely play video games less and less. I purposely try to find other wholesome things to do with my time than wasting it on playing video games. Video games have a tendency to effect every gamer differently but in many ways the same. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy playing video games but I don’t want to become entrapped by them again. Here are 3 negative effects of video games that I personally experienced.

Negative Effects of Video Games: Point #1 Video Games Are Mentally Addictive

I remember when I was younger I was heavily involved in playing video games. I would stay up all night with the boys playing games, trying to beat the high score. Once we decided to put the controllers down you would think the video game stops but it doesn’t. It continues on inside your head. If you’re at work or in school you can’t wait to get back home to play again. You can’t think about anything else but trying to figure out new moves or learn new tricks to beat the game or your friends. I can see how kids grades begin to fall when they start playing games. The games stick in your mind and you can’t think about anything else. It’s always a negative thing when your wife, girlfriend, or other family member comments to you that you are always playing on that thing. Its addictive.

Negative Effects of Video Games: Point #2 Negative Influences in Games

Most video games made now go overboard on the negative influences like uncensored music, sexually connotations, profanity, violent images, etc. There are so many kids that go astray morally as a result of what they experience playing games. A kid that never curses suddenly begins to starting cursing. I’ve noticed many players that weren’t any good at certain games so instead of finishing the game, they would become frustrated and quit. This bad habit many times is carried over into real life when they experience something that seems too hard, so they quit and walk away. They can’t take the pressure.

Negative Effects of Video Games: Point #3 Sparks A Rage in Kids

Many kids that aren’t good at video games who lose a lot have a tendency to become enraged. They are easily upset and willing to start fights. There are also occasions where two good players are battling it out on a game and the loser is too immature to handle the loss but instead tries to start a fight. Nothing makes a kid more angrier than losing at a video game, especially in front of a crowd of people. The disappointment is hard to handle and he wants to take it out on someone. Some of the biggest sore losers are gathered around a video game system.
These 3 negative effects of video games has helped me to scale back my time on playing games. I don’t scramble to the store and buy the latest game anymore. I’ve learned how to stay in control of myself when it comes to games.
